Live Music: Mindy Dillard
Mindy Dillard is a musical alchemist who accompanies her award-winning songs with modern twists on the clawhammer banjo and funky rhythmic grooves on the guitar. She’s known for her innovative storytelling, powerful stage presence and soaring voice. This Salt Lake City-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter draws inspiration from her life as a mother and her role serving women after they give birth as a registered nurse.
“If Mindy Dillard keeps doing what she is doing now, you’re going to hear about her music, and you’ll be glad you did.” – John Gorka
Featured Artist: Emma Goldgar
Local artist Emma Goldgar has been enthralled with art for most of her life. It began small with childhood dabbling, but the angst and awkwardness of adolescence caused Emma to spiral out of control into her obsession, which has her firmly in its grasp to this day.
Raw and self-taught, Emma has spent years refining her techniques and molding her own unique style. Using varied media, she blends realistic, surrealistic and conceptual styles to capture the human form and transpose it with a dreamy, natural environment. Her artwork is a means to turn reality on itself, to once again spark the wonder and wistfulness of childhood.
It’s Emma’s mission to bring art to as broad of an audience as possible; thus her recent career has shifted to produce both teaching and performance components as well. Bringing art into community endeavors, Emma live paints at various events, ranging from fundraisers to festivals, where it’s easier to interact with the public about her work!

Tonight, let us be
all seven wonders of the world
and gas cans with no matchbox symphonies.
Let us be the opposite of riot
and let us feel the way the rain gutter feels
after it has been swept clean by the current.
Let us feel like we did our jobs today.
Let us taste something less bitter
and smell something sweeter.
Let our eyes remain dry
and our knuckles stay home,
away from brick wall reunion
and ask the other fists that meet there
to stay away from our cheekbones.
Let us listen to something more powerful
than that of a thousand man choir,
or rather, let us become it.
Let our pillows call us to them
and let us arrive
before the sun comes up tomorrow.
Let our tongues be soft again—
Razor blades are not at home here,
behind our teeth.
Let us be alive without anything
asking us not to be.
Tonight–
let us be
at peace.
Let us be
equal,
as you said
we were all created
to be.
