Pure Food and Alchemy: Salt Lake City Transmuted into a Night of Swiss Revelry
The Jung Society of Utah will hold its Second Annual Fundraising dinner Alchemy, Art and Food on Saturday, October 10, 2015 in the Odd Fellows Hall, (26 W Market Street, Salt Lake City). The dinner will be a wonderful opportunity for all those who have interest in psychology, philosophy, myth, religion and spirituality to discover and connect with other kindred spirits. You can buy tickets through Brown Paper Tickets HERE.
Transformation is the unifying theme of Carl Jung’s work, and the alchemists’ work of transmuting metal was really about transmuting the natural fragmented man into the unified spiritual man. The dinner signifies a transformational experience: a soulful sharing of beauty and reflection of inner truths.
Under the direction of Fundraising Chair Ruth Vorwaller, committee members have all worked hard to bring about this year’s event. “The Zurich Connection – Where It All Started,” is the theme of the evening in honor of Carl Jung’s Swiss origins and will feature Zurich specialties from Chef Froddy Volgger, formerly of the Vienna Bistro. In addition to freshly made Spaetzle, Geschnelztes and Butternut Succotash will be a vegetarian option.
Music will include a strolling violinist, local vocalists and Alpenhorn players. Artists Carol Koleman, Jon Burton and Krisi Thoreson’s work will be exhibited.
Koleman has lived in ten cities and in four countries, which has given her a unique yet universal perspective on the world around her. Her photographs portray real representations of this world, though they are offered as metaphorical suggestions – more visions or dreams than reality.
Burton has been a full time artist his whole adult life. He spends 30-50 hours on each piece of art and uses art as a healing modality, facilitating art therapy at the prison.
Thoreson “endeavor(s) to capture beauty. The kind of beauty that is self-evident, intrinsic, and independent of external factors.”
The Jung Society of Utah is still a young society, seeking to grow with support from local people who wish to expand their knowledge and understanding of human psychology through the works of this important thinker. The event which will take place this weekend will be a beautiful experience and will pave the way for more high-quality presentations hosted by the society. We hope you will come and share in a joyful celebration of life honoring Jung’s message to the world and become a member of the organization.
